Hmmm....  I don't have any turntables to implement it that way.  But
I'm thinking that it doesn't need any more than 90 degrees of
rotation, as long as you don't mind not being able to move while
turning.  So, you could have a frame like the one below.  The turning
shaft T is to the left, and the driving shaft D comes up from the
bottom.  The turning shaft is fixed to the frame.  W is a thing wheel.
B is the center of a bevel gear.

           ----------------------------------------------
           |       |                            |       |
           |       |                       |    |       |--------|
   T-------+-------+                       B--------G-----   ---------  W
           |       |                    _B_|    |       |--------|
           |       |                     |    --+---G---+------B |
           ------------------------------|---------------      | |
                                         |                     --B--
                                         |
                                         D

Unfortunately, the frame isn't to scale.  It needs to be shorter (it's
needlessly long) and wider (otherwise the bevel gear won't fit).  It
would give you about 135 degrees of rotation.

I am working on building a platform using the idea from the "Syncho Drive" (no flamewars about what to call it -- that is what the original poster had so I am sticking to it). The problem I am having is that turning one "leg" induces a turn in the (...) (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)
