This is similar to what I have done. My IR tower is on a table, about 2.5
feet off the ground. It faces the center of the room, bouncing off a wall
that is about 10-12 feet from the tower. The RCX is lying flat on the top of
the robot platform, and it makes no difference which way the platform is
oriented, I do not lose control.
I was surprised by this, and so experimented with download. I can get D/L to
work with the two units about 10 feet apart, but only if they face each
other. As you rotate one of them off axis, the D/L starts repeating lines on
the RCX display (retrying ?) and eventually fails.
