Hi, Laurentino,

Thanks for the speedy response.

Hi, I've just bought Mindstorms to implement a long-standing urge • of mine:
to acquire a Logo turtle for educational purposes.  Seymore Papaert was a
long-time proposent of LOGO and directed many thesis on its use in
exploring and enhancing the development oa primarily
quantitative/mathematical concepts in children.  He and others used,
. . .

I've built a room mapper using a CyberMaster with quite success.

Goed!  I'm not quite sure what CyberMaster IS but it seems to be based on
RCX and so accessible to what I have.  THe LEGO site has a reference to a
Cybermaster site but I have tried in vain to find out much about what that
is from the site.

Au contraire of the RCX, the internal tachometers are very precise
and I'm still astonished by the similarity of the pattern drawn in the
PC screen (in a program of my own) and the patterns it "draws" in the
floor. After 2 or 3 minutes of driving in the floor, and using *only*
the tachometers to calculate it's position and direction, it still knows
where is "north" with a precision of 25 degrees or less, which if very
good.
I didn't yet had the time to fine-tune the routine, but I think I can make it even more precise with some debugging.

Returning to your turtle project, I think you will have some difficulty
of implementing a precise driving mechanism without some rotation
sensors in the wheels, but that's only my opinion.

I just realized that the motors in Mindstorms are NOT servomotors and so
cannot be used for precise rotations.  Shucks.
Now we need an encoding GPS or at least compass...

Did you check the web site first?: http://www.crynwr.com/lego-robotics

I found nothing on LOGO on that or any other mindstorms site,
strangely...

Thanks again,  Ralph Deal@kzoo.edu

(...) Since your LOGO turtle doesn't need other sensors, you can put two rotation sensors and use an adder/subtractor to drive the two motors. Put the rotation sensors early in the gear chain and with sufficient reduction you can get very precise (...) (26 years ago, 31-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)
