I've built a room mapper using a CyberMaster with quite success.
Au contraire of the RCX, the internal tachometers are very precise and I'm still astonished by the similarity of the pattern drawn in the PC screen (in a program of my own) and the patterns it "draws" in the floor.
After 2 or 3 minutes of driving in the floor, and using *only* the tachometers to calculate it's position and direction, it still knows where is "north" with a precision of 25 degrees or less, which if very good.
I didn't yet had the time to fine-tune the routine, but I think I can make it even more precise with some debugging.
Returning to your turtle project, I think you will have some difficulty of implementing a precise driving mechanism without some rotation sensors in the wheels, but that's only my opinion.

| Hi, Laurentino, Thanks for the speedy response. (...) of mine: (...) . . . (...) Goed! I'm not quite sure what CyberMaster IS but it seems to be based on RCX and so accessible to what I have. THe LEGO site has a reference to a Cybermaster site but I (...) (26 years ago, 31-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)
