  Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

I've been trying to build a mechanism I remember seeing on a kids toy. What I'm thinking of is a vehicle with two un-driven wheels at the back and two wheels at the front that are mounted on a turntable such that they normally pull the vehicle (...) (22 years ago, 25-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

(...) I find it hard to believe some 'iffy' condition would be required for a mass-producted childs toy. (so you hope) I have two suggestions. 1) Limit the rotation of the turntable to 180 degrees. (or 180 each direction) That should keep it from (...) (22 years ago, 25-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

(...) The "Cy-Purr Mouse" cat toy seems to be sold just about everywhere (including my local supermarket) for $9 US or so. See, for example*: (URL) employs the principle you are describing about as precisely as I can imagine. The only problem I've (...) (22 years ago, 25-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

(...) Yeah - exactly. (...) Limiting the rotation like that would remove the very feature of this mechanism that I need - the ability to escape (eventually) from any kind of corner. (...) That might work - but it comes into the catagory of 'iffy' (...) (22 years ago, 25-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

May I give it a go?..... I'm not exactly sure of the Toy you speak of, Hmmm. I also have seen a Toy that does this. I brought a gift from Zany Brainy for my Friends Son's Birthday. The thing was neat! It was a Clear Ball and had a little I think, (...) (22 years ago, 25-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

(...) I made a flimsy mini-rover version of Ben Jackson's rover a while back. Note the use of iffy friction in the rear by barely inserting an axle into a micromotor pulley: (URL) front wheels are offset from the vehicle's center line to counter the (...)   Hardware mods to the RCX

Ok, I'm interested in doing some hardware mods to a few RCX bricks to get better communication. So here are a couple of questions: 1. Has anyone published an actual schematic of the 1.0 RCX? 2. Has anyone already designed a USB interface to the RCX? (...) (22 years ago, 27-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Hardware mods to the RCX

(...) FDTI chips are very easy to use, look at (2 URLs) I'm thinking about using the power from the (...) Maybe there some usefull links at the next page under the block "Mindstorms Internals" (URL) the IR components by a serial connection won't be (...) (22 years ago, 27-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Hardware mods to the RCX

(...) Actually, I was hoping to leave the existing IR circutry in place and just switch it out when a cable is connected. That should give me backwards compatability. As far as the firmware, I expect to be writing my own code in Forth, so shifting (...) (22 years ago, 27-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)
