In case anyone is interested, I've put together a web site detailing how I
disassembled a Rokenbok vehicle in order to build a radio control module for
Mindstorms. The interesting coincidence is the Rokenbok circuit board is
7x11 (in lego dimensions), allowing it to be wrapped up neatly in a Lego
package
exactly the same length and width as an RCX brick.
The end result is a Lego radio control "brick" that can easily be
piggy-backed on top of an RCX, or used to create stand-alone radio
controlled Lego robots using just a Lego battery pack and lots of
Mindstorms/technic pieces.
The advantage of using a Rokenbok-based system is you can easily add other
radio controlled vehicles into the mix (up to 8) without worrying about RF
conflicts - they all share the same base station which sends the encoded RF
signals.
The whole point of this was to be able to have a group of friends build some
radio controlled Lego robots and then compete in various scenarios (such as
a soccer match, the usual arena-type battles, capture the flag, etc.).
Details are here:

If you don't know what the Rokenbok toy is, you can get some background info
