There are now three range settings - Short, Medium, and Long. Long is only
possible if you plug the tower into a high-power USB port. I.e. plugging it
into a non-powered hub or some laptops doesn't work with the Long setting.
There's also a setting to switch it between IR and VLL (Visible Light Link)
modes. The later is used with the optical fiber above to communicate with
the MicroScout. And apparently, you can have multiple towers connected to
the same system, and switch between them from the software.
