Got my RIS 2.0 set —Tilman Sporkert (webMethods)
I just received my RIS 2.0 set. Here's a quick rundown: - Part contents is identical to 1.5 except for - The RCX is labeled 2.0. Otherwise, it is visually identical to the RCX that came with the 1.5 sets. There's no power connector. - A single (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Got my RIS 2.0 set —Tilman Sporkert (webMethods)
To continue on my own post... (...) ... (...) There are now three range settings - Short, Medium, and Long. Long is only possible if you plug the tower into a high-power USB port. I.e. plugging it into a non-powered hub or some laptops doesn't work (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Doesn't that mean the ROM must have been changed? IIRC the RCX 1.0 could not do VLL... Chris (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Got my RIS 2.0 set —Tilman Sporkert (webMethods)
(...) I was talking about the new USB tower, not the RCX. The RCX is visually unchanged, except for the "2.0" inscription on the side. Tilman (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Got my RIS 2.0 set —Jerry Kalpin
(...) Tilman, what you are saying is that the set *seems* to be identical except for a new IR Tower, new software and some additional 'challanges'. For me, the serial-connected tower seemed OK and the packaged software stays in the package, unused. (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Got my RIS 2.0 set —Tilman Sporkert (webMethods)
(...) That's correct. (...) Why would you want to buy one unless you want additional RCX's? I think there's enough demand for the RIS from new customers that they don't have to worry about enhancing it enough to get existing customers to buy it all (...)         Re: Got my RIS 2.0 set —Mario Ferrari
(...) [snip] (...) Hi Tilman, thanks a lot for the info. I personally don't use RCX Code to write my programs, but IMO the addition of variables and instructions to manipulate them is the most important change. This makes the software much more (...)
