  Re: Question about RIS 1.0

(...) The RIS 1.0 can be run from either 12VAC or 12VDC. In either case an internal bridge rectifier supplies the internal circuitry with the proper polarity. Internal power is supplied through an LM2936M 5V regulator (maximum input of 45V BTW) The (...) (24 years ago, 1-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Question about RIS 1.0

(...) Transformers do NOT convert AC to DC. They only convert AC to AC. The DC conversion is performed by four diodes in the RIS1.0. Maximum input is rated at 12V AC or DC (the diodes will take care of the polarity for DC inputs) although the (...) (24 years ago, 1-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Solar Capacitor

(...) Yeah it's for real. There's been alot of discussion about the capacitor on here recently, just do a news search. (24 years ago, 1-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Solar Capacitor

I have been playing with a couple of Lego solar panels and the Capacitors. (URL) label on the capacitor claims a value of 1 farad. Is this value possible in such a small component? I always thought a 1 farad capacitor would need a huge plate area. I (...) (24 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Shutting off illumination LED on Light Sensor for LIDAR

(...) I strongly suspect this is a myth. A transistor is a transistor is a transistor. They all require biasing in order to function properly and that requires power. Mind you, even so-called passive devices must either generate a voltage or have a (...) (24 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: lego cap, polarity, etc

(...) This is generally true, but not as dire as you make it sound. (...) Actually, electrolyte is a good conductor of electricity (in any direction). It comprises one of the terminals in an electrolytic capacitor. The other terminal is aluminum, (...) (24 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Ideas for new sets?

(...) What exists in the real world and what exists in the minds of some marketing personnel is often radically different. The play and educational value of Technic IS still present, but isn't valued as much by the marketing people at Lego. I (...) (24 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Question about RIS 1.0

(...) The RCX accepts AC voltage, all it needs to convert to DC is 4 diodes, or a small bridge rectifier. It takes anything from 9-12VAC. Apparently you can do some damage by plugging in DC, as in the long term you will only be passing voltage (...) (24 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)
