I'm looking at getting a Visor unit. But it depends on what it can do.
Can it use NQC and upload firmware/programs etc?

No, at least not yet. Charlie has discussed with me the *possibility* of
developing a library that other people could use to do IR communication
via the omniremote hardware. This would allow porting NQC to the Palm in
a meaningful way.

I've just read that version 1.2 of the program will have a programmers interface.
Would this allow NQC to be ported to it and be useable for Downloading Firmware,
Uploading programs and sending msg codes?

Yes. That's basically the idea :)

With a Visor Platinum would I be better off getting the Spring board module or
registering the software for a key or both?

You should mail Charlie (at the omniremote site, there should be an
email link) and ask him that question :)

The Omniremote Handspring Module also does X-10 communications; If you
could get bidirectional communication going with a visor with the
omniremote module your legos could turn lights on and off and so on (in
an X-10 equipped environment.) It would be awfully cool to be able to
have the model turn the lights on in a room it entered in which they
were off, so it could navigate, and turn them off again when it leaves
the room (if they weren't already on when it entered.)

My entire House is X-10. But X-10 uses radio Freq's for the remotes. Does it have
that circuit in it as well?

Yes. There is an antenna in the Handspring module for sending the X-10
RF messages.

Very cool stuff.

If the Visor worked with NQC the possibilities of being at a show and being able
to modify a program and reset a dropped RCX etc. would be fantastic.

Absolutely. There's no reason you couldn't do this. And with the 8mb in
a Visor Deluxe, there's plenty of room for NQC (which of course must be
ported first) and the code. The omniremote software itself is contained
within the handspring module (but can also be installed in system
memory, of course.)
