Makes no sense for use with GP2D02 (uses serial protocol).

Using the more general purpose analog interface (the one with the opamp)
should work well with GP2D12 I think (I'm also no electrical engineer).
You can adjust the output then (Sharp 0.6V - 3.1V).

Perhaps you should add a voltage regulator to this curcuit (like LM78L05 /
5V 0.1A max.) to drive the Sharp. (it needs 4.5V - 5.5V)

I'll test it when I get my Sharps (GP2D12) back (i lent them to a friend of
mine and get them back in some weeks).
