Is there a specific reason to restrict things to a
predator/prey relationship?
How about a "sumo wrestling" competition?  You could pretty
much use the real
sumo wrestling rules.  You have a big circle, clearly marked
with a black line
(so the lego light sensor can detect it) and the object is to
push the other RCX
out of the circle, or knock the other RCX down (in this case
maybe flip it over
so it can no longer move?).    You would still have the
design considerations of
detecting the location of another RCX, keeping track of your
own location (i.e.
don't cross the line), and trying to have some sort of
attacking/evading
strategy.

No there's not reason to restrict it.  However with only three inputs the
RCX is pretty limited, Keeeping track of your position, Your Opponents
Position and the Lines position is a lot of input.  That's why the simple
"Touch 'em and they die" rule appeals, the judgescan do all the hard work
and the bots only have to run in a straight line towards the the opponent
(or away from) and bounce off the walls. Note: there's no reason why the
"arena" can't be arbitrarily complex, say like someones living room floor.

(...) Well, yes there is. If there's objects besides robots which can be hit, robots need some way of telling the difference between "I hit you!" and "I hit a wall!". (26 years ago, 3-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Hmm... instead of making it arbitrarily complex, why not make it extremely simple- say, a square of pre-defined size where each robot starts in on corner, parallel to an edge? This would allow a measurement of location (and thus a (...) (26 years ago, 3-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)
