  Re: RCX Tank Base

Should have posted this hear Peter, (...) Alas, unfortunately I consider myself to be somewhat of a Lego purist, I look for almost pure Lego solution where I don't have to 'modify' bricks. If I started buying non-Lego stuff I'm afraid my hobby might (...) (23 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

  Re: RCX Tank Base

(...) When I was first designing the tank base I had assumed I would have to use an adder/subtractor to have straight driving. I spent a fair put of time playing with different A/S trying to fugure out which would be best to use. It was then that I (...) (23 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

  Re: Line following algorithms

All this talk of line following competitions has got me interested. Does anyone know if there are any such competitions in or around Minnesota? Also, what are the best places to look out for this kind of thing? Thanks, Gary (23 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Using RIS and USB Tower on a Macintosh

Hi, Dave, Thanks for the info; I shall pass it on. I have 8 or so serial towers we aren't using for class as we've switched to USB towers. So I can see if they can get that working under Virtual PC. Just as an aside and to answer the question (...) (23 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Using TIS and USB Tower on a Macintosh

(...) I have run the RIS 2.0 software under virtual PC (VPC 5.0, Windows 98) with the older serial tower via a Keyspan USB/serial adapter. I was never able to get the USB tower to work with VPC/RIS. If you *really* want to run the RIS software, then (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Using TIS and USB Tower on a Macintosh

I have a student who is trying to use RIS 2.0 with Virtual PC on a Macintosh. LEGO says the drivers should be on the CDROM; the guy that sold them Virtual PC says it probably won't run the RIS 2.0. Can they run RIS 2.0 on a Mac? Can they use the USB (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Newbie has an idea - Nascar style racing?

(...) No good news. Scott Evans of US FIRST wrote that 3M only prepares this material for FLL and is not prepared to deal with individual requests. He suggested that spliced 36" printouts from a large format printer work well for him during testing. (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: hovercraft

Pure Lego propellors: I just tried using vehicle windshields as rotor blades. They actually work quite well. Their slope is extremely steep - but I guess that's what you want for small diameter propellors (ie a smaller hole in the top of your (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: hovercraft

For people who are interested in chasing this goal, it would be interesting if people would post the weight (or mass - if you have a handy massometer :-) of your contraption - along with it's 'floor area' and the total 'skirt perimeter' length. (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Line following algorithms

(...) Well I suppose this statement applies to me since I have organized an event that limits the robots to a single light sensor. However, in my defense, I must say that the intent behind the rule was to make the game more fair for all competitors. (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: RIS 1.5 & XP?

Yes, it will. RIS 1.0 will also work on XP. Before installing any of the LEGO software on XP (or 2000, for that matter) I highly suggest downloading the latest versions of Quicktime, DirectX, and RealPlayer. The versions on the LEGO software were (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Ok, just saw the pics. ...and you did it with a LEGO propeller ! WOW! :) (...) I think I'll have to make a much more flexible and long "skirt" like yours. Mine was half short and more rigid, so that's why it leaks more air. I'm also trying first to (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)
