  Re: Books

(...) I think the point here is that they're different. You should choose the one that best suits your purposes. I'll be getting both of them. :) - Ben. ---...--- Ben Williamson benw@pobox.com (URL) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Books

Can either book be found at major physical bookstores yet? (I know that they are at amazon.com) (...) Joel Shafer joel@connect.net (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Upcoming _Star Wars_ Mindstorms and Technics Releases

Actually, now that stuff is leaking out, its starting to look scarily accurate. Now, where is that Jar Jar minifig, Iza hungry! But it doesn't say anything about the Flash speeder in there so, Im going to wait a little longer on eating that fig. (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: Scout brick and IR

(...) Best guess - to appeal to different segments of the market - the scout looks 'easy' to use for people with no computer or programming experience - but they still keep a door open for those of us that have computers and are crazy about (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I was just made aware of Daves' book by Gary Cornell, who pointed me to (URL) looks great to me - I've got it backordered. Sincerely, Michael Jones Peripheral Test Instruments, LLC.   Re: Books

My book was released less than a week ago. Copies are probably just getting to physical bookstores as we speak. I just got a stack (direct from O'Reilly) today. I think Ben's right: buy 'em both. But of course I'm biased. And hey, thanks to whoever (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Pneumatics and the RCX -how?

I'd love to get a hold of some small RCX controllable valves also. I just finnished building a six legged pneumatic walker that would benefit from these for different walking motions. Presently, it just walks forward with the tripod gate type (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: HC11 pink book

Adam: The pink book part number from Motorola is: M68HC11RM/AD this is the general reference manual for the whole family of microcontrollers, there is also a technical data manual with P/N: MC68HC11A8/D this one just covers the A series processors.   RE: Scout brick and IR

I have one of each, but the RCX is far more interesting. I think the RDS would be fun for younger kids (it says 9+ on the box), but once you got the hang of it, you would quickly want the programming power of the RCX. My scout is still configured in (...)   Re: Scout brick and IR

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I believe the RDS Scout fills a nitch in the market that was lacking. When the RIS first came out, I was working at an educational toy store that sold it. Most kids that got one loved it but quite a few RISs did get (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Need Balls!

(...) Finding your own balls isn't really as difficult as it sounds -- you just have to know where to look. Most Toys backward R Us stores have a large Nerf selection with a variety of sizes and shapes. They're usually larger than the balls that (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: Scout brick and IR

Is there an IR port on the RDS? With that big old LCD, it would be sooooo much better than the RCX if you could actually do real programming on it. -Luis (...) ###...### Profanity is the one language that all programmers understand. -Anonymous (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

What is FLL? (was: Re: Need Balls!)

(...) It's a double acronym: FLL stands for "FIRST LEGO League" and FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology."   Re: Need Balls!

(...) Didn't the FLL organizers foresee the need for balls? Have you guys considered using ping pong balls instead? Very close in size to the original robo sport balls I would think. Uniform and easily obtainable. Somewhat heavier I think. <ICS> (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NELUG at Mindfest update (Good News on our Table Space!!)

Hello Eric... Expect to be VERY busy. I speak from experience. I just showed off my LEGO collection at Calgary's Woodworking & Hobby show on Canada's Thanksgiving weekend.   Re: Need Balls!

(...) You get 5 balls with the FLL extension set, but the contest uses up to 30 per team, and we are trying to simulate a contest. Of particular interest is whether the bins will get full and start overflowing. The balls are about 1.5 inches in (...) (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)
