Hi guys And while I’m on this train of thought (I hope you piratical dudes don’t get especially cross with me), what are a few pointers for a beginning boat builder? I’ve been looking at some of the featured ships in the sidebar for ideas, but I’m sure there are secrets hidden in those hulls! Thanks much for any and all replies!

hello! i just saw this today, totally missed the entire discussion. anyway, if your looking for parts, i usually plug for Ebay, bricklink is great, and you can always find what you need there, but you may have to pay a bit for it. i use both sites, but usually go with ebay if possible. Mr Dulin offered some sound advice for looking for Ebay auctions a bit earlier, he about covered the methods of picking up cheap ship parts.

as far as advice goes, please feel free to ask! we love helping out new pirate builders, dont be afraid! stand right there for a sec, will yah? *slowly aims carronade at unsuspecting newbie*

if youre looking to build ships, what do you need help with? i know all my ships are pretty straight forward, nothing hidden inside the hulls to get the proper look (except for the stern design, that takes lots of internal support). basically, building big ships is really cool, but building a ship that is properly shaped and proportioned for it’s size is a greater feat, there are some around here who build wonderful ships, and they arent enormous. thats one area i would like to work on, building ships 2 center parts or smaller. Mr Dulin has some great smaller ships, and some very nice large ones as well, youve probably checked his out.

when building, try to choose an interesting color scheme, it really adds a lot to the ship. when building, try to keep lines of color continuous along the length of the ship. tall slopes work great for larger ships, when i first started building, i used regular slopes, and those worked pretty well, especially on my smaller ships. finally, look at lots of pics to get a feel for ships design, the general shape of the ships.

hope this helps, and good luck with your project!

best regards, steve

Hi guys I was inspired by this flying island: (URL) ...to make one of my own. I haven't built it yet due to space constraints, but I do have a few ideas floating around. ;-) Then I got to thinking I might want to try an airship to go along with it. (...)
