   Hi guys

I was inspired by this flying island: http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=25111 ...to make one of my own. I haven’t built it yet due to space constraints, but I do have a few ideas floating around. ;-)

Then I got to thinking I might want to try an airship to go along with it. I don’t have any of the prefab ship hulls--for that matter, I don’t have any ship sets--so I was wondering where I could get a few for cheap. Or, in your experience, where’s the best place to get them? Or maybe I should look to get a complete set? I mean, having never purchased, let alone build, a boat/ship before, I may just want to do this to get all the right bits?

And while I’m on this train of thought (I hope you piratical dudes don’t get especially cross with me), what are a few pointers for a beginning boat builder? I’ve been looking at some of the featured ships in the sidebar for ideas, but I’m sure there are secrets hidden in those hulls! Thanks much for any and all replies!

Yo-ho-ho! A pirate’s life for me!

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Glad you liked my unnamed village! Check out the original post... Whew! Dusty. Um.

As for airships, you should try seeing what damage you can do with these boat bow bricks. I dunno if you dug around in my brickshelf folder, but I used them in my merchant airship here:

If you just gotta have the hulls, there’s always bricklink.com, but then you’d wanna round up all the pirate-specific parts, like mast bits and rigging bits, and the wheel, and maybe an anchor, and maybe you should just start out with one of the Jack Stone pirate sets that are supposed to be out sometime this summer...

Most of my inspiration for these two came from a video game called Skies of Arcadia. It’s got hot winged pirate ship action. But don’t let those steer you away from the Final Fantasy style airships!

In any case, good luck building and show us what you come up with!

Kevin

(...) Yes, I "dug around" and I liked it a lot! I like your flying island most of all your things, but the (URL) comes in a close second. I like (URL) this guy>, too.
