    Shooting cannons —Daniel Williams
Hello, and I apologize in advance if this is a really dumb thing to be asking, but... I recently got ahold of one of those firing cannons, with the black plunger thingie on the rear end and the long spike in the barrel and all.. however, I can't (...)         Re: Shooting cannons —Tim Coats
(...) I am actually guessing this is NOT a firing cannon. There were a few early ones in the US that had the firing mechanism parts without the spring. In other words they were disabled. More recently those pieces have been removed and replaced with (...) (24 years ago, 11-Oct-00, to lugnet.pirates)

         Re: Shooting cannons —Dave Schuler
(...) Is this information accurate? I have two spring-firing cannons, both of which I acquired from a 15-year-old who was entering his Dark Age.          Re: Shooting cannons —Scott Thomas
What kind of spring is used? All this time, I thought just flicking the black piece of the cannon made it fire! Scott (...) (24 years ago, 13-Oct-00, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: Shooting cannons —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) Nope, there's a spring inside. Someone here did modify non-shooting cannon (the disabled variety, not the one-piece mould variety, naturally) to fire with a cut-down spring from a retractible ball-point pen. It's roughly the same diameter. (...) (24 years ago, 15-Oct-00, to lugnet.pirates)

(...) I've never had to 'undisable' one myself, so I really can't, but if you do a search through .pirates you should be able to find the old thread which tells you how. best LFB (24 years ago, 17-Oct-00, to lugnet.pirates)
