Hello, and I apologize in advance if this is a really dumb thing to be • asking,

plunger thingie on the rear end and the long spike in the barrel and all..
however, I can't seem to figure out how to make the blasted thing fire.  The
plunger moves a little bit, but doesn't seem to really pull out or twist, • and
it's the only moving part I can find.  It's entirely possible that my cannon • is
broken or something, but since this is the first one I've seen, I wouldn't
know.. so if someone knows how I'd make the little thing fire and maim some
poor unsuspecting pirate (they must get those peg legs somehow), I'd be very
grateful if they could let me know.

I am actually guessing this is NOT a firing cannon.  There were a few
early ones in the US that had the firing mechanism parts without the
spring.  In other words they were disabled.  More recently those pieces
have been removed and replaced with just the gray back end piece.  But
for a while there non-firing versions of the firing cannon.  I know
because I have 1-2 of those too.  I a real firing cannon that back bit
should pull back against a very obvious spring.  If the back is fixed
and just wiggles a little, that is the non-firing hybrid thing.

AH-HAH!  Okay, well, that does indeed explain a lot, doesn't it?
Thanks a bunch :)
