It's a nice modification, but I can't help thinking it'd be better and cheaper all round to just build an IR receiver circuit for this - there's very little of the original configuration left in your mod. Hey all, Well I’m at it again. This time I bring you something with more usability. As most of you reading this should know the Lego Company recently released 2 IR train sets. While the idea is great, the implementation left much to be desired. The (...) I have been objective to the standard part colour combinations from TLG for a few years now. This post is not a bashing of new greys or browns. Axles have always been black, so to friction pins. A few part mods for the brave: I decided that buying 32x32 baseplates and cutting them in two was cheaper than buying twice as many 16x32 baseplates. The question is how to make a reliable straight cut. I've used 4x8 plates for rigidity and slider (...) A few keen-eyed Brickshelf followers might have noticed my latest parts mod, cutting up the 1x4 black and yellow striped tiles in order to make the chevron patterns for loco ends. (...) I suspect that the new smaller prints are less susceptible to printing errors. The more space around the letter the less tiles will have the writing snipped at the edge so you waste less of them. Tim (19 years ago, 24-Apr-06, to lugnet.parts)

My first track mod was the now fairly common point with a 2-curve side-branch. I'd always wanted to do the opposite - to move the track over with just curves. I've been able to find only one functional difference (improvement) you can clearly see here : (URL) That square limit how deep, Technic bushes for instance, can be "studded"; preventing it also to be "angled". (...) Is this a functional difference? It looks like something (a 1x1 cone, maybe?) should be able to stud into the center of that square. The only 2006 sets I have with part 3747 (7893 and 6205) have the older version. (19 years ago, 7-Apr-06, to lugnet.parts)
