No. That does not work. I’ve been able to find only one functional difference (improvement) you can clearly see here :



That square limit how deep, Technic bushes for instance, can be “studded”; preventing it also to be “angled”.

  
The only 2006 sets I have with part 3747 (7893 and 6205) have the older version.
