All good questions. I was just starting to build the arena today (making larger

circles, about 3" in diameter, with somewhere around 1" between the edges of the
hole and the wall. I'm slightly concerned that this will be too big a hole,
though -- that the robots with wheels less than 4" from the front edge might
fall into it. On the other hand, any smaller, and it's possible a robot trying
to deliver an egg will fail. One possibility is to put some sort of a grill over
the holes that allow eggs to easily fall into it, but keep the robots out. I
might do that.

Does anyone else have suggestions about the hole size and placement (or shape)?
If so, speak up soon, before I start cutting!

The holes will have white tape around them (I think you said in a previous
posting), so if there are robots that may fall into the holes, they could detect
the edge of the circle before falling in (they'll need to in order to deposit
the egg, anyway). But, perhaps this assumes too much: according to the previous
instructions, robots only had to detect the holes when they had an egg to
deliver, not when searching for an egg.

I'm happy with 3" holes that are 1" away from wall.

Here are a couple of 'work in progress' pictures of the Easter Egg Hunt arena: (URL) black top has curled a bit, but we'll tape it down before using it. The walls will be fastened together properly, and there will be white tape around each of the (...) (20 years ago, 22-Mar-05, to lugnet.org.us.smart)
