One somewhat significant item came up durring our discussion that had to do
with protecting NELUG and more specifically the www.nelug.org domain name
from some corporation or organization called "New England Lovers of Upchucked
Goo" or something that thinks they have some right to the NELUG name and
the nelug.org domain name.

Has someone actually been contacted with respect to this by a real company, or
are you talking about a hypothetical situation?

Sorry,  This is purly hypothetical at the moment.  It's not something I feel is
likely to happen but its just something that during the coarse of conversation
we thought we ought to protect ourselves a little.  We were the first to
register "NELUG" and after a little checking...  yup nelug.com and nelug.net
are both still available.  So I don't think we have anything to worry about.

I think I had mentioned to Dave Eaton that I had considered registering them
too but thought that the added expense really wasn't warrented.  Interestingly
though Todd owns lugnet.com and lugnet.org but not lugnet.net .

I think the one situation we thought of was if the North East Linux Users Group
wanted to make a stink at some point in the future.

I think thats highly unlikely and we have a strong case anyway.

So I wouldn't worry to much about it.  Just us miserable New Englanders always
thinking the worst.

If the former is true, this is a fairly serious topc, and we should definitely
talk about this seriously here on Lugnet so we can all be aware of what's
going on and discuss our options for reaction.

Again I don't think we have to worry but it still might be a good topic for
discussion.
