After that humiliating defeat, I would like to try this again, but with a
better layout so don't destroy those modules yet.

I'm thinking either:
- design modules with specific positions in mind
- design modules with doors on more than 2 sides-- essentially eliminate the
"corner"-y and "edge" modules.

Both approaches are correct. If you guys give me some time, I can come up
with a map before the setup.

Too late, I already made the map and added these new modules:
6 32x32
1 16x16

Follow the link below to see the design specs for these rooms.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=19500

If we each build one 32x32 module with a cover then we won't know which room
the queen is in.

Building Notes:
When building the 32x32 modules you will need to build a removable plug for
one of the doors.  When I designed the layout I couldn't get all of the
doors to line up.

It might be a good idea to put a wall between the two doorways that are
opposite each other to prevent long range fire. Or you could add doors.

You don't need to match the colors I used in the specs, but you should have
the plate running around the bottom of the room.

I was thinking of having
another game on the 13th.  That would give us enough time to build one or
two more modules each.  Other suggestions for dates would be fine too, since
I know brickfest is the following weekend.

AAAARGH!!! I can't make it to Brickfest this year. Stop talking about it.
:(

I might be able to play the 13th.

That's two maybes for the 13th.  Anyone else?  Others who couldn't make it
to the last game are welcome to join as well.

There will be two objectives to this new game:
1. to be the first team to capture an alien.

Darn it... they are going to gang up on me now.

Yes but they will have less troops and you can have stronger aliens now.  So
have fun killing people off.  Don't worry about keeping the aliens to the
300cp, just make them hard to kill.

2. to upload as many data packets as possible.

Fewer data packets would be advisable, since there were so many that they
were way too easy to find.

I think the number of datapackets wasn't too bad, but we needed to arrange
them.  This time we'll start by putting the most common ones at the starting
points of the game.  Then as we progress further into the ship, the data
packets will become rarer.  To add a little fun, we could also put all of
one color at the Faction's end and all of another color at the Coalition's
end.  That way the only way to collect all of the data packets needed will
require us to get past our enemy.

I'd be tempted to revamp the rule to *carrying* the data packets. In this
last game, there was no real reason to tote data tiles around. In fact,
there was reason to purposefully re-hide or keep out-of-reach tiles that
might otherwise be captured by the enemy. Adds a spin if you have to keep
your people alive in order to retain points. Plus, it means we can explore
more, since effectively each team spent 6 turns with 1 trooper uploading,
when they could have been out doing other things. After all, who wants to
waste a turn downloading porn when you can be out decorating the halls in
your enemies' entrails?

We could probably make it as to get the data packets to the computer
room/control room to score any points.

I like this idea.  Each team has to collect one of each type of datapacket
and bring it to an appropriate room to score the points.

There will be special nets that can capture an alien drone, but watch out
for the queen, she will be hard to kill.

Cool!!! Now I get an excuse to build the queen (and a room to put her in).

Try not to make the room to obvious.  We want to have fun searching for her
as well as TRYING to kill her.

I'll send you the map so you can decide where you want to put your nest.

--The Faction team was able to escape with the mind controller without any
resistance.

Mind controller?

It was such a secret that even The Coalition didn't know the true nature of
that device.

The Coalition assumed it was a mind controller, because we couldn't
understand why a ninja would be caught running around with such a silly
looking hat. ;-)

--The Faction team opened 18 modules.
--The Coalition opened only 9 modules.

-- The Faction lost 8 troops (1 intentional suicide), while 10 survived
-- The Coalition Marines lost 10+ troops, while 6 (I think) survived

--The Coalition still has one trooper wandering around the ship since the
aliens can't seem to attack him.  I think he stinks.

That's the luckiest trooper in the whole LEGO(r) Universe.

I would say he was that lucky.  Why didn't the aliens attack in the movie?
Because she was pregnant with their queen.  That poor guy must of been
infested at some point in the game.

(...) Sadly, I won't be around that weekend. I'll be in upstate New York running a 9-mile road race with Lauren and my sister. I'm sure I can arrange for someone else to bring my modules, though, if need be. Or we could have it after Brickfest. (...) (22 years ago, 18-Jun-02, to lugnet.org.us.nelug)
