ps:  why would you ever have anything "sans ninja"?!

I didn't. Shaun's just a wimp :) In our last game, they had a tree fort on
top of a nearly vertical rock, which we would have to scale with regular
troops. However, we decided that this could be overcome because ninjas could
scale vertical (and even inverted!) surfaces with no movement penalty. So
while our regular troops would be picked off 1 by 1, ninjas could run right
up the wall in 1 turn, and start hacking away at their archers. So we ended
up with 6 ninjas on our team to overcome the obstacle, but they complained
afterwards. Bunch of sore losers if you ask me :)

Well one other flaw to last game (heres my chance to be a sore winner?) was the
use of scouts to target catapults.  This gave their catapults such accuracy
that they could target individual soldiers with them and hit almost every time.
While Scouts make sense for higher tek levels I think they shouldn't be used in
the lower levels (at least to level 3 maybe 4).

I really doubt that in medieval times guys ran forward and started jumping up
and down saying "shoot here, shoot here".  Even if they did I doubt the
catapults were good enough so you could target a moving solider and nail him
almost every time.  (Catapults where pretty accurate but mostly for stationary
things like walls or large forces of troops).

That said I don't really have a big problem adding some fantasy into our tek 2
games although I would like to keep Majic out of it if we can (at least in
terms of using it soley to attack).  I think "charmed" or "enhanced" weapons
would be cool, I just don't like shooting fireballs.  Giants might work too but
I'd like to keep the fairys out of it :-).

Anyway for now I vote "No Ninjas" and "No Scouts" for the next Tek 2 game.  We
can talk more about majic, non-human characters, and enhanced weapons later.

(...) I'm no expert, but I think that scouts were used, but not as targeting agents - just to scout out enemy movements etc. :) (23 years ago, 20-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.us.nelug)
