Thanks for your input. I've been thinking about it and it might be cheaper • too.
then going out and blowing 50 bucks on a table.

4x4 ft modules seems like a nice overall size. I would myself make some • module
design changes myself but that only for personal reasons.

As far as doing the work. I can do that I have a Woodshop at my father's home
that I usually use when I go home to see him. Things like bolts and screws I
have already so all I really need would be wood. I guess we could do that.

OK LUCNY guys what you think?

After considering all of the benefits of having our own tables, I am completely
in favor of having our own custom built tables.

I will pledge financial support for this project.  How does $50 sound for a
start??

Table height has to be determined.  Whatever the height for standard commercial
knockdown tables is should work fine.  This will allow using such tables if
necessary.

After sizing issues, the next most important feature of having our own custom
Lego tables would be REMOVEABLE LEGS.  This will allow modules to be assembled
at home and transported to events all in one piece.

I have never been to a model train show so I know nothing in regards to what
venues provide.  I guess up till now I have been of the assumption that tables
would be provided on site and that our finished modules would be transported on
3/4 inch plywood or similar and simply placed on top of tables.
With our modules built on tables (with removeable legs) we can make things a
lot easier on ourselves.

I recall one Lego train show participant (do not know who) once stating that
their modules were built on SIX LAYERS of Lego bricks for stability.  Well, I
certainly do NOT have that many extra bricks to waste on such a use no matter
how efficiently they are used.

Guess I (we) have a lot to learn yet about producing a mobile Train layout.
Can't we just use the floor ?? <joking>
