I bought the 4090 at full price and have absolutely no regrets.
I built the first model in the Idea Book yesterday afternoon (a sort of kooky
guy on a unicycle type thing with reciprocating legs and bobbing head). There's
only one word I can use to describe the resulting model....'fun'. This thing is
silly and wonderful all at the same time. It reminds me of a 19th century toy
that might have been made of wood and/or tin. Very clever design.

I *almost* bought the wind-up set the other night, but ended up with the 4090
instead. Thanks to Toys 'R Us and their darned sales last week my LEGO budget
was already shot for the month... or more. Having said that, the wind-up set is
next on my list. I'm a big fan of the LEGO orange, so that one obviously caught
my eye apart from anything else it includes.
Is it possible to replace the wind-up motor (in the Idea Book models) with an
electric one? I suppose anything's possible, I just wondered if they suggest
it, the way they used to suggest adding a motor to certain Technic sets.

Do you get the feeling that the Inventor sets are the changing face of Technic?
I found it interesting that the new Technic sets contain a lot of rounded
studless beams, while the Inventor sets contain old-fashioned Technic-style
studded bricks. And yet, the models are more 'out there' and don't seem to
focus on trucks, cars etc. like the Technic line. Perhaps in some ways they are
an extension of some of the things seen in the 'Klutz' book?

"Hard to impress"? Who? Me? ;)
My only hope is that both kids and adults will find something to like in these
sets, so that sales of them will reflect what I think is a positive direction in
product design for the company.
