I was over at the one at Yorkdale and found some items on sale, about • 25-33%
off.  There was a lot of LOM stuff being cleared out.

You missed something, I put my hand in a half-eaten bread product that was
stuck behind one of the sets.  I almost fell over I was laughing so hard.

Yorkdale makes me angry when it's that busy.  ARGH.

Well, one of the things was to use it as a cheap rotation sensor.  I think
the plan was to gear it in such a way that the FOS element rotated once
every say, 1/8th of a turn of another gear, and you had one of the fibre
elements pointing into a light sensor.  If you turned the other gear once,
the FOS would rotate eight times, allowing you a crude sense of rotation.

It's actually even a bit simpler than that, if you just connect the port on
the top of the Fibre Optic unit to a sensor and configure it in RAW, you can
see the state changes either 8 or 16 times per revolution (can't remember),
but it's also 2-state so you have no sense of direction.
