I'd love to, but I'm away during that period :(  Always the same
story...

I think the precision contest is more interesting, the distance contest
that some are suggesting might be worth doing, but it seems that I'd be
much more likely to damage my Lego pushing that limit, as opposed to a
reasonable range goal and trying to make a precise device.

I think I like your decreasing-size targets; give each machine something
like three shots at a target, and you are disqualified if you can't get
it in three.  Something like that.  Or perhaps you carry a score with
you based on how many stones you've placed in the rings over the course
of the contest...

Someone would have to volunteer a back yard for me to test mine, anyway
:)

Hi folks,

Well, it looks like many folks would like to do vending machines in March at
the Library, and there's folks building for train4, which I'm looking
forward to (I'm building a TGV/Thalys like train!) even though a concrete
date isn't set for it.  Vending machines is a toughie in terms of work and
time...train4 is eating up a lot of time and effort too.

So, I'd like to propose we do a fun event in late October/early November,
basically a Trebuchet event at a local park:

Objective:

Deliver an object into a target a set distance away.  How you do this is up
to you (pneumatics, floating arm trebuchet, etc).

Date:
Late October 2002 or Early November 2002 before snowfall

Location:

probably West Deane Park in Etobicoke.

Target:

The target will be 50 feet away from the launch line.  It will begin as a
target 10 feet in diameter, as defined by a length of (garden hose, ethernet
cable) in a circle.  As each round goes on, the circle is reduced in size.

Rules:

-Machine must fit into a cube 36" max in any dimension
-The projectile will be predetermined (not golf balls, Park bylaws prohibit
golfing) such as a wheel hub/tire or walnut or something.

Anyone interested?
