(...) (URL) like that a lot. There are a lot of great ideas on that page! Iain (19 years ago, 16-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Brian Davis
(...) Ya, but it's a *happy* explosion ;-). Between this page and the SMART crate contraption, I got about 80%+ of that poorly formatted "idea list" on Steve's GBC page. The pictures and animations are great, but I wish my German hadn't collapsed (...) (19 years ago, 16-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Iain Hendry
(...) Great, use those ideas to build a robot that can stack blocks. :) Iain (19 years ago, 16-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) There's some sort of block stacking robot thingy?? Dave K (19 years ago, 16-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —John Guerquin
(...) Yes Dave, there is a robotic competition in something like 10 days. And contrary to what you may be thinking, it's about stacking SQUARE BLOCKS, not stacking ROUND BALLS belonging to someone named Steve :) After all Dave, you WERE the (...)         Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Derek Raycraft
(...) Oh, man, I'm so far behind on mine. I'm trying really hard but I just haven't been able to get the juices flowing. I'm still going to put a push on to get it done. I'll be there no matter what I end up with. Derek (19 years ago, 16-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —David Koudys
(...) I have to be there--I have the arena at my place. Speaking of which, the arena is in *very* bad shape--plywood doesn't like water and all that. I'm going to try to paint it, but I'm telling you, iths not pretty. If anyone builds their 'bot (...) (19 years ago, 16-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Calum Tsang
(...) Do you think we need to buy new sheets of plywood? Sand the surface a bit? Is there anything I can do to help?! Calum (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —David Koudys
(...) If the weather is clear, I'm going to open it up on my driveway this weekend and examine it. The issue is it will still be below 0 so painting outside is out of the question. Painting inside will incur fumes and such in the abode, but I'll see (...) (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Derek Raycraft
(...) If the damage is isolated to the edges of the plywood, then consider cutting it down. I think a somewhat smaller playfield is better then a warped and ruff one. Derek (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —David Koudys
(...) Well, I also know of a place where we can find a somewhat smaller playfield that is already painted and (mostly) perfectly flat. ;) I'd rather have the big one, though. Fron what I saw, it was a little more than the edges, but I'll make a (...) (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Iain Hendry
(...) Thoughts: -rtl20. Go to a "virtualised" playfeild. As far as I know, we use the big plywood playfeilds to give us walls, right? So we can use touch sensors. Since everyone (?) has two light sensors, what about doing a trial run sometime where (...) (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Brian Davis
(...) Why do you use a fixed field? For playing with kids, I used 4 6' long 1x4's with swing hasps (you know, the latches that close with a pin or padlock) at the ends to form an enclosure by pinning the four ends together in a square. Then use (...) (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Calum Tsang
(...) Right, that's about what we have, 4 8 foot long 1x8's, and two 4x8's. We can disassemble it etc, so it's not fixed. But as to why ply versus other materials, it's what we started with and what was easily available at the time. Calum (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —David Koudys
(...) I had that concept once--a friend works in the greenhouse shading system business, and can get yards of very high quality shading that can easily double as a arena floor, with a proper border. The issues are-- need to be on a relatively smooth (...) (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My first fully functioning GBC... —Brian Davis
(...) The material that I'm thinking of is rather stiff, but still rolls up (not folds). Small irregularities aren't a big problem (besides, how flat is the wood in the first place? Even before water damage). Look at: (URL) the plas-tex paneling, (...) (19 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
