(...) steve, this would be a GREAT idea... if I was teaching american children. but these Canadian guys need more stimulation than just (drive forward go to top) ;) Chris There's no 'I' in 'team'. There's four in 'platitude-quoting idiot'. (21 years ago, 24-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Steve Hassenplug
(...) here's a great idea. show them a two wheeled robot that just stands there. talk about exciting. "What does it do Mr. Magno?" "It stands there." "oh... ... ... ...hey, Mr... ..." (21 years ago, 24-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Calum Tsang
(...) Apparently that'll get you on TechTV... :) But seriously, I might have to agree with Steve here. Sumo or something REALLY obvious. How about get them to build a small I dunno, wheeled robot. Let it drive a long and stop when it touches a black (...) (21 years ago, 24-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) ohh. yes, you got me on that one?! :) Come to think of it, thousands of people have found that robot to be pretty cool. Just wait 'till you see my next stunt. :o Steve (21 years ago, 24-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Calum Tsang
(...) I didn't actually intend to be mean about it: I do think it's cool. I don't know why Chris finds it so funny, so much so that he called me up at work to say it was funny? :) Calum (21 years ago, 24-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Brian Davis
(...) Actually, I'll chime in on Steve's side here - Sumo is not what rtlToronto is about, but having kids smash robots together is, usually, a hit. One option is have a standard chassis with easily switchable gearing (different gear ratios), (...) (21 years ago, 24-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Wayne Young
(...) I was going to be unconstructive and suggest you bring a mixed box of lego and get the kids to sort it. Worst case, you end up with the same mess, best case you get your lego sorted. But seriously, it depends so much on how old these kids are (...) (21 years ago, 25-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Chris Magno
(...) these kids will be less than 6. after much thought I tend to agree with everyone's ideas of pre built (and programmed) robots. what i will probably do is build as many line follower (or something) robot, and offer the kids the ability to (...)       (...) sumo. (...) Spend about 10-15 minutes talking about what would work well, and how to run the robots (also safety procedures!?) then let them go. With about 6 robots, by the time they all battle each other once (or twice) and then have a couple (...) (21 years ago, 25-Feb-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —Brian Davis
(...) However, having used it in just that way, it *is* a great set to show the kids. I used the LEGO mars exploration rover several times this year while talking to school groups about the MER mission(s), and built an unsprung suspension out of (...)         Re: WANTED -- ideas to teach kids about lego roboitcs —John Heins
(...) First, this isn't much time. Second - How old are the kids? You will have your hands full AND need help. I've been doing this for 4th and 5th graders, BUT over a minimum of 8 one hour sessions with 12 kids max. I actually do a progression of (...)
