Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Mario DeFacendis
Well it's time to open the can of worms. The rules state: "A coin toss by the robot designers decides which robot will start first. The person who moves first always starts with red game pieces. Each robot is required to be able to be started (...) (21 years ago, 18-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Wouldn't the coin get tossed, the players selected, and then the bots get loaded with the appropriate colors? I don't get it, I think? (21 years ago, 18-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Chris Magno
(...) no you get it, mario is just a bit thick. mario, you listen, I'll talk: I take a canadian coin, (a loonie) (URL) it will be "tossed" someone will be declared first..... each player will be asked if they are ready. between the "call" and "yes (...)          Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Mario DeFacendis
(...) Ok, please thin out my skull a bit more... The loonie says I go first and I stack my robot with red chips. So why can't I just select program #2 (the "I go first program" and then press the magic Run button? Why do I have to wait for the (...) (21 years ago, 19-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Derek Raycraft
(...) Sorry. I think I understand your confusion now. I suggested the board scan because it means you don't have to have two entry points into you program, and you don't have to explicitly tell your robot whether it's playing first or second. This (...)         Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Derek Raycraft
(...) What the **c* are you talking about. I've suggested no such thing! Whether you will play first is decided well before you load your robot with chips. That has nothing to do with it. I'm merely suggesting how the robots should be told to start (...) (21 years ago, 19-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Mario DeFacendis
(...) That's what I understood when I read your message at the root of this thread (repeated here for convenience): <paste> The robot will scan the board, see that there are no chips played, play its first move and pass turn. The second robot will (...) (21 years ago, 19-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: attention Calum Tsang & Chris Magno (was Re: Starting C4 Games) —Chris Magno
(...) YES. you are the only one. even in the rules page it says that we all know ahead of time who is first or second, and, by extension, you (the human) have enough time to do what ever is needs to make your robot work. Chris (21 years ago, 19-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
