  Re: recovering lost files

(...) Chris, First of all STOP SAVING FILES TO YOUR HARD DRIVE...the data should still be present, as the file system in your OS just opens the AREA of the disk with the data on it to be overwritten, not actually wiping out the data itself. Each (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

ooooh. Great piece of advice. Too bad I didn't hear about this about two weeks ago, I lost two very important pictures (group pictures of my parents' conference, they were *really* mad). I bet it's all gone by now... :-/ -Shiri (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) "I blame myself." (Egon Spengler, Ghostbusters) Sorry, Shiri...you might still try though, you never know. Oh, and since I didn't think to say it, download the file and run it from a removeable disk (ZIP if ya' got it). DON'T DOWNLOAD IT TO (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: recovering lost files

(...) Nah, it's long gone I'd bet. I just added tons of files to my computer this week, unknowingly... downloaded all my pictures from zing.com (they're closing their doors, unfortunately :-( ) plus added over 200 songs to my mp3 collection over the (...)   Re: recovering lost files

(...) Thanks Matt.... I owe you one... I lost only about 10% of the total file set... I guess because of netscape caching pages and my searching for the files. It took me a while to figure out that I had lost them. Luckily, I had just copied some of (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: recovering lost files

I'm happy to hear that you recovered them...:-) Here are some advice: ** Make at least *two* *more* copies of any data you don't want to lost. ** Never Trust Floppies, they are volatile, literally. ** Make your HDD defargmented by using either (...)   Re: recovering lost files

Selcuk/Steve Yeh everything has been backed up in several places. I've been slow to do backups of late for a number of reasons. Lack of PC zip disks and getting a new computer and not having the ambition to swap the cd-burner into it. rest assured (...) (23 years ago, 21-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Hey Chris, Isn't it nice to know that LUGNET folks are going to nag you to do your backups from now on, though? (...) Heh, good idea, I just submitted it to quotes-r-us.org. If you go to "advanced fatures", set keyword to "mothers", the second or third quote should be this one. ;-) -Shiri (23 years ago, 25-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
