Chris,

First of all STOP SAVING FILES TO YOUR HARD DRIVE...the data should still be
present, as the file system in your OS just opens the AREA of the disk with
the data on it to be overwritten, not actually wiping out the data itself.
Each time you save a new file to disk now, you run the risk of the data you
want to recover being overwritten, and then it will REALLY be gone for good.
(and if you are using programs that create temporary working files without
your knowledge, like MS Word, stop using them also)

Here is a link to a file recovery program, and a free trial version:

Also, run this Google for more info on other methods and programs like it:

Good luck and HTH,

Thanks Matt.... I owe you one...

I lost only about 10% of the total file set...  I guess because of
netscape caching pages and my searching for the files.  It took me a
while to figure out that I had lost them.  Luckily, I had just copied
some of the files from floppies (and then wiped the floppies :/ ) but I
ended up being able to recover part of the data from them.

My thesis is saved. :)

thanks again
