Well, chalk that behavior up as being courtesy of your operating system
vendor.
They want booting and every other normal aspect of computing to be slower
and slower each year so that you need to buy faster and faster processors
to compensate. It's been that way at least as far back as 1985... :-(

| (...) Boot up time issues aren't unique to Windows. I was always annoyed at how long OS/2 took to boot up at work. Now that I use AIX on an RS/6000, Windows and OS/2 start up instantly by comparison, though a large part of the slowness of AIX (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
