Re: Mixing ATA-33 and ATA-100 drives on single device

(...) There was a restriction when EIDE first introduced. When you connect two IDE drives (one slow, one fast) to the same cable, both drives transfer data at the same rate, which is the slower one. So techies always suggested that connecting fast (...) (24 years ago, 15-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Mixing ATA-33 and ATA-100 drives on single device

Is there any speed penalty when mixing ATA-33 and ATA-100 drives on single IDE device? The IDE controller is ATA-66. I have only got two IDE drives, so I might as well put them on either device as master. But if there is no speed penalty whatsoever (...) (24 years ago, 14-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: News search function temporarily disabled

<nod nod> Thanks for letting us know. I'm no geek in any means, but first things first, I would limit the search. Sometimes a single search brings up thousands of posts. I suggest if the search is too broad, say it and make the searcher narrow it (...) (24 years ago, 13-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Good Lord man! 365,000 applications in twelve minutes? It's obvious this foosball table company isn't net.savvy (I mean, besides the fact that they admitted it)--if they were, they'd have made it look horridly unattractive. "Company seeks (...) (...) For a lot of search engines, you have to register, unfortunately. Even more unfortunately, some search engines make you *pay* to register. Mmm, graft. eric (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  News search function temporarily disabled

The system crashed again. Either it's running out of memory and that's causing a downward spiral or it's running out of CPU cycles and starving enough processes to build up and cause a meltdown. Either way some tuning needs to be done. This is going (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.announce) !

  COM ports and perl

Does anyone know how to access a COM (let's say COM2) port on a pc using perl? This is for a project to interface a digital balance to a computer for automated data entry.   Website Help

I just got my own website with its own domain name and put up a little bit f stuff on it. When I tried searching for it with yahoo.com, it didn't come up! Even when I used words specific to the site!   Digital cameras - some MUCH cheaper overseas, even with shipping

I've wanted a Casio QV-2800 since they were first announced, due to their 8x OPTICAL zoom and CFII capabilities. They STILL aren't available in the US except from Casio at $700, and CA tax added $58 to that! After shipping, the total was going to be (...) (24 years ago, 8-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
