Password crack detection and slowing (was: Re: LUGNET Memberships)

(...) I've been thinking about this more tonight, and reading a bit about SysV semaphores, but I don't have experience with them and I'm finding the docs confusing, especially where Perl is concerned. Anyway, upon further reflection, I wonder if (...) (24 years ago, 26-Sep-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: LUGNET Memberships

(...) I am pretty serious... I don't know what safeguards they have in place... they might have asked me some questions, I forget... I just remember, that a week later, when I remembered my password, I still couldn't log in... and when I contacted (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: LUGNET Memberships

(...) Are you serious, or joking?! (I assume you're serious.) Egad, if they don't also block IP addresses after someone does that, then it's only a matter of time before there's a massive DoS attack against a hundred thousand or a million random (...)   connection problems

Is anyone else having connection problems to lugnet this weekend? Dan and I can get ok to www.lugnet.com and guide.lugnet.com but can't communicate at all with img.lugnet.com or news.lugnet.com... pings even arn't going through, though they nslookup (...)   Re: LUGNET Memberships

(...) easy - try logging in as someone (or yourself) 5 times, and get the password wrong. then ask for a hint, get that wrong. then they'll disable your account until you get a little note in the mail with your new password. do this to some (...)   Re: Domain names, re-registering of same.

(...) Thanks. That in fact is where I registered miltontrainworks.com and bricksmiths.com because while the per year price was the same, I was able to pay for 5 years at a time, which is worth something to me. And I use their DNS too. It was a pain (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Any having trouble accessing lugnet.com subdomains?

(...) This probably helps not at all, but FWIW, I'll comment that we've had similar problems with other websites, and yes, even with LUGNET when connecting through Juno (god how I'd kill to not have to use a modem). Anyway, suffice to say that the (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: LUGNET Memberships

(...) Nice rant. What does PayPal do if someone tries to break in? They must have some kind of fancy delaying system and on-the-fly log checking? I wonder how hard it is (or if it's possible) to DoS someone on PayPal. --Todd (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Domain names, re-registering of same.

(...) I haven't, but I intend to. You have to fill out some forms and get them notarized. It's kind of a pain. There's a FAQ on register.com's site: (URL). I assume any other registrar who wants you to be able to transfer easily will provide (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
