Re: Problem with CD-ROM drive on Windows NT

(...) that (...) it. That's right. I always classify them all in the same package. (...) OK, I have not used Direct CD at all, just Easy CD Creator. (...) Hmm.. the last time I worked with NT I thought it did. I guess I need to get up to speed on (...) (24 years ago, 1-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Problem with CD-ROM drive on Windows NT

(...) Adaptec Direct CD doesn't burn audio cds - it's a packet-writing package that allows you to dump data a little at a time on a cd till you're done with it. And its garbage, for the most part. You're thinking of Adaptec Easy CD Creator, mostly (...) (24 years ago, 1-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Problem with CD-ROM drive on Windows NT

(...) Hmm... I have not had too many problems with it. I usually just burn music CD's, so I don't use the original. It is good for that. (...) Alright, is the CD-ROM showing up in your system under control panel? If it is, does it have that yellow (...) (24 years ago, 1-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Problem with CD-ROM drive on Windows NT

(...) Yes, the original offending CD-R was unsuccessfully written with Adaptec CD-Direct. That has to be the worst CD-writing software ever. Anyway, the offending CD-R doesn't bother me too much. What bothers me more is the fact that when I boot up (...) (24 years ago, 1-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: What system should I buy for Linux?

(...) I'm installing LinuxPPC 2000 as I type this. It peacefully co-exists with the MacOS, even gives you a little boot menu to choose from MacOS and Linux. (24 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: What system should I buy for Linux?

(...) I *could*, but I need my Macs to be Macs while I futz around with a new OS in the household. Maybe later... Thanks for the Penguin Computing rec - I'll check them out. -Tim (24 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Problem with CD-ROM drive on Windows NT

(...) Hmm.. was it formatted with a program of some kind? (Like it was written for writing CD-R's?) If it is an audio CD, it sometimes does not put that track marker on it to signifyh the end of the CD. I have had that problem before. I know the HP (...)   Problem with CD-ROM drive on Windows NT

Hi, I tried to access a CD-R with the CD-ROM. It failed to access and locked up. When I restart the system, the "E:\" choice is unavailable in the explorer. Anybody know what I should do to recover from this situation? This is Windows NT on a Compaq (...) (24 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Newbie Linux Questions

(...) I think that you'll probably need to recompile your kernel to add support for higher com ports. But, since it's PnP, if the card is supported in Linux, Linux should theoretically be able to reconfigure it (...) No consensus. They're both not (...)
