(...) laf... okie, have you found a window box that doesn't suck? We have a bunch of users that seem to resist the idea of converting to RH (for some reasonable or not-so-resonable reasons :) and I havn't found a platform I'd recommend for them, (...) (...) i deal with dells at work (like 30,000 of them or so) and i just love them to pieces (except the dimentions (sp) they suck)... i've dealt with compaqs, hps gateways and the special no-name brands that have the serial numbers scratched off of (...) (...) Heh. I deal with dells at work, and I think _they_ suck. Nice case design, sub-par performance. (This is the optiplex line; others may be different.) (24 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) ewewewewewew. Sorry, I have to deal with some gateways at work, and they all, without exception, suck. If you want a windows based machine, why not go with dell? a quick look shows 1GHz PIII, 256MB 19" monitor, 40GB HD, DVD and CDRW for $4029 (...) (24 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) vs (...) Dual PIII 600 vs Athlon 1Ghz is probably a toss-up. With most things, the 1Ghz Athlon will be faster, but rendering is a great best-case application for SMP, so the two PIIIs might be faster for some of what you're doing. And really, (...) (...) You can probably get student deals on Apple stuff (which would fit in well with what you want to use your system for). But even with the discounts, that may not be the most economical choice.   Shopping for a new PC...

All, I'm shopping for a new PC. My budget is <$4000, and I'm a student, so maybe I can get student discounts? I know I want a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW drive, but other than that I don't really know much other than I want it to be fast :) Stuff I use my (...) (24 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: support & disclaimer on homepage

(...) Not neccessarily :) The slightly redundant '$' in '$x USD' led me to thinking that maybe it was there intentionally. At least in tcl, 'x' has a different meaning from '$x', ie -=-=- #!/usr/bin/tclsh set x 21 set $x "\$500" puts [set x] ;# (...)
