  Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

Well, I proved it worked today. I'm still getting the system up and running (have to look for another sound card - SB Live! didn't like my system and I don't have the patience to deal with it) but preliminary benchmarks show it to be running at (...) (...) _Very_ nice. (...) Probably pretty well. :) It's a shame to put a (largely) 16-bit OS on a nice processor like that. (...) Of course it's possible. I haven't done it though, 'cause I try to avoid needing a printer ever. ("Paper? What's that (...) (26 years ago, 16-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

(...) Oh yeah. I also got a nice Optiquest V95 19" monitor to go with it. Run that off my Marvel G200-TV video card. :) I would have liked to go with a 21" monitor but I would have had to spend literally more than double what I paid for the (...) (26 years ago, 16-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

(...) Have you benchmarked this system against the P2-450. If it works out I may have to consider that a real alternative. I am just leery of the Celeron at this point. as far as printing it sounds like a print server would work well for your (...) (26 years ago, 17-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

I'm not sure about most of this..but there *is* a little tool that uses a modular line to make a printer connection...they use them at work.... I can't remember the name off-hand, but It converts parallel ->modular ->parallel so you don't have to (...) (26 years ago, 18-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

(...) I don't have a P2-450 handy to run real tests on, but I can say that it seems to keep up with my P2-400 quite well. Just based on straight WinBench numbers it falls in the middle of a P2-400 roundup at PCMag, and the ones ahead of it have much (...) (26 years ago, 18-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

(...) Thanks for the info, but the only cable I'll be running down the hall (and then under the door) is a nice thin cat 5 cable that will run to the printing/isdn machine. I need to find some nice tubing or something to run it through, though, (...) (26 years ago, 18-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) Now you can have Burnt Celery. The 300a has the 128k cache doesn't it? Carbon 60 ======== Posted via the LUGNET discussion group web interface ======== (URL) Search, Read, Post, or Watch Traffic (26 years ago, 18-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

(...) Hasn't burned out on me yet. In fact, it is only running at about 96F, which is cooler than my P2-350 runs. Left it running non-stop for the last 48 hours. (...) Yep. (26 years ago, 18-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

I think we've got some Nycoil(sp?) around here (they use it in News Vans to route cables up the masts and stuff)....but it's red..about 1 inch thick and flexible... or you could use some PVC just to go through the wall or whatever....   Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

Mike, don't you want to get in the attic and spend a couple of hours drilling holes in the wrong ceilings ;-> It really isn't that hard to run wiring through and attic, I just did it at a friends house. One warning though, never do it at 2-3 in the (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

Bad idea to do that then, very bad idea. I was just looking at some computer catalog and I saw remote printer set ups, I could look up some more info on them if you want. I believe they were radio, and it had a neat little box that would attach to a (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Overclocking Celeron 300a to 450

(...) Nah, no need to bother looking that stuff up, but thanks for the offer. I have all of the components here today to assemble the third machine. Once that is done I will need to find a dual printer port card so I can have 3 lpt ports and also at (...) (26 years ago, 20-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
