I have heard this story too but it's hard to believe!  I could swear
I hear him say that phrase.

I do remember a SNL skit during the 1980 Presidential Campaign where
they put Jesse Jackson in the hot seat with a big red nuclear launch
button.  On one side was an actor imitating Carl as an advisor, and
another person on the other side.  The actor playing Carl said
"Imagine if you will, billions and billions of stars..."

I believe that complete phrase is the one he denied saying.

That may in fact be where the quote came from.  Carl definately said
"Imagine if you will.." in the Cosmos series, and he did overpronounce
"billions" along with may other words.  I wouldn't be surprised
if he said "billions and billions" too, just not after "Imagine
if you will".

Heard him say it.  Wasn't recorded.  Doesn't mean I'm wrong or that Dr.
Sagan remembered it.  Gosh, you are taking this personally.

(yawn-----smack, smack----scratch) Like I said, the misquote came after the
"Cosmos" series because of the WAY Sagan overpronounced the "B" in
"billions." You'll never find any recorded proof he said it before "Cosmos"
either because he just didn't. The man himself checked everything he did to
see if he really said it and nothing turned up. Also, he said it's just not
his style to use that phrase. What more can I say?

You claim he DID say it before the "Cosmos" series in some private capacity
in 1985? How is that possible when the "Cosmos" series came out 5 years • before?
