Since this has been posted individually, I will point out that there was
a thread (or at least a sub-thread) exploring this point. That debate
(and it was a pretty good one) did not convince me one way or the other.
Larry and other folks (libertarian or not) will have to speak for
themselves.
My gut feel is that one can enter into something most would call
slavery, but I don't think you can really ever sign away ALL of your
rights (though I generally accept that you have the right to terminate
your own life, and certainly, once you have done so, you don't have many
rights left, but I think the system should ALWAYS be open to examining
the events which lead to the death, and finding that your rights were
trampled, and holding the person(s) who did so responsible).
The most important item which is open to examination is whether the
implications of any contract of slavery were fully disclosed and that
the person offering themselves into slavery understood what they were
doing.
Basically the guarantor of rights in Libertopia is critical examination
of all the relevant facts.
