Yes, it is true that there are waits for non-critical exams and procedures.
However, if it is a more serious case, the wait is usually less than a week.
I have a neighbour that injured his knee back at the end of June. Several weeks
of physiotherapy didn't help and in Sept he went to see a specialist about it
and is now scheduled for an MRI sometime in December. The funny thing is that
his dog was ill and taken to the vet last week. The diagnosis was a possible
brain tumor so they scheduled an MRI. There was only a 2 day wait to get the
MRI done on the dog and they unfortunately confirmed the earlier diagnosis. I
think this shows a good example of the merits to having a private (two tier)
health system available.
