I'm not sure our health care system is communist but its free*.
A long wait for an MRI is not uncommon. This is due to the lack of facilities.
Several private clinics have opened where you can have one done but you have to
pay big bucks. Professional athletes and people with more money than god have
the option of getting a MRI there.
I do like that I do not have to worry about health care coverage EVER. I pay
nothing for hospital stays, doctor visits, surgeries ect. I had day surgery to
remove my wisdom teeth. Total cost to me - $0. We do have to pay for
medication but most companies have a health plan that covers 80% and as in my
case my wife is also covered so we have 100% coverage once we submit to both
plans.
Our healthcare system is not perfect and long waits at hospitals is not uncommon
- 8 hours to get my finger stitched - but the price is right.
*To say its free is not exactly accurate. All Canadians pay healthcare premiums
but they are $20-$30 a month if I recall correctly. I also think, but I am not
sure but I believe healthcare payments are waived or lowered if you are below
the poverty line.

If 90% of the population has access to good health care, then that's great, even if access to certain procedures is limited. On (...) (20 years ago, 6-Oct-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
