It's Dutch, and not all that common.  It wasn't until I was into my 20's until I
met other folks with my last name that I wasn't related to.

Hah, I got you beat! It wasn't until my 40's (all of a month or two ago)
that I met someone with my last name that I'm not directly related to...

Psh, beginners. I'm 36, and I don't think there is a Stangl (with that exact spelling) in the world that I am NOT related to.
