Gadzooks! That's just intolerable. I guess we should just go over there and teach them a lesson. O wait... Risks of War: death, maiming, mutilation, maltreatment, rape...doesn't much matter which side you are on from what I have understood of it. (...) (...) Another reason to kick their miserable a$$es. If we did that in the U.S. people would practically overthrow the government... this just goes to show how bad Saddam has gotten and why we should remove him and his corrupt, totalitarian regime. In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Larry "The Plagiarist" Pieniazek writes: Look in the mirror: 1) Think about the way the USA treats POWs from Afghanistan. 2) Think about the war criminals the USA harbours within its borders. 3) Think about the war (...) (...) It looked like more of a mob to me. Given the pictures of the conflict shown on al Jazeera, I wonder how [the collective] you would react if the tables were turned? al Jazeera: (URL) this site have an English version?] Scott A (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) PoW footage 'breaks convention' [the text you cite] (URL) should not be used as part of the propaganda war between the two sides, and all warring factions should respect that, says Ms Notari, a former PoW in Somalia herself. Those rules should (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Scott: "America admits suspects died in interrogations" (URL) over here in the States, as you may recall, so I ask you: what sort of source is the Independent? My only bigger point is that we are all of us whores for our side -- no one is innocent. (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) Tables turned? You think our(U.S.)military would shoot at a downed pilot in the water unless that person was allready shooting at us?What's it going to take with you? (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Geneva Convention on POW treatment is just another inconvenience to the Iraqi Regime?

(...) Chris, you're wasting your breath with Scott. Many (but unfortunately not all) of us now ignore Scott... you might consider it too. But to answer your question, yes, Scott does think that way about the US, by and large. (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) "It is, are you?" I never buy it; it is so mind bogglingly dull. But it is a credible news source. Paypal me $2, and I'll mail you a copy. (...) Hmm. "Terrorism", that term is so passé. Try "shock 'n' awe". Scott A (22 years ago, 25-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) 1. It was a mob. 2. They were not shooting at anyone in the water; they feared someone was in the rushes. [We all fear the unknown to some extent.] 3. Look at how some of your countrymen treated American Muslims in the aftermath of 911. Those (...) (22 years ago, 25-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Geneva Convention on POW treatment is just another inconvenience to the Iraqi Regime?

(...) Let's be realistic, Scott--my countrymen treated American Muslims like crap long before 9-11. We don't need some outside agency to create our racism for us. We're a nation of do-it-yourselfers! Dave! (22 years ago, 25-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

So much for the Geneva convention.

(...) This got a mention from one of your countrymen [NJ] in a letter to the Guardian published today: Remember Guantanamo (URL) cannot recall a greater instance of hypocrisy in the recent past and a greater disconnect with international opinion.
