In lugnet.off-topic.debate, the following was written by Dave!

I know this is trivial compared to questions of whether or not I would
be entitled to screw Wal*Mart just because I figured out how to do it, but
since I have $222.50 at stake, I wanted to get other people's insight before
I discuss it with the dealership tomorrow.

Another angle from the NLS, who heard the story from me in the car and so
may have missed several gory details:

The folks at Sears should not have gone ahead and changed all four tires before
getting your consent.  If they took them off without inspecting them first and
checking with you, then it should be on them because you agreed to the
replacement of two tires rather than four.  He suggests that you ask that they
throw in one tire for free to make up for their error and let them know that
because you understand their concerns about liability you are willing to pay
for three.

The NLS suggested this compromise because he is of the opinion that
realistically no matter what you do you may be SOL(1), especially regarding the
Ford dealership.  Me, I think I would use the adamant refusal of the Sears
mechanics to let you out of their shop without remedying what they perceived as
a major hazard as evidence against the Ford people when I took them (as Rob
suggests) to small claims court.

I, for one, would like to state for the record that Maggie uses foul language as others might use paint or clay -- with her word choices she creates huge, complex obscenities that border on being "art." When her words (...) (22 years ago, 1-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

In January of this year I purchased a used '98 Ford Contour from a local dealership. The purchase package included a much-touted 100-point inspection and an assortment of various guarantees and coverages. To date, I've had no mechanical (...) (22 years ago, 31-May-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
