Sorry I was just drifting into off-topic....
I have tried to start a discussion on the topic of quality of Lego in the past
a few times, but most people seem to agree with you, that this is a minor
problem. (I am of the opposite opinion!)

I fear they won't. Lego is buying lower quality ABS from Bayer® as we have
recently heared. And they are under pressure to produce cheaper (faster). In
result the machines have shorter moulding cycles and the parts are of
(much) lower quality.

I can't discuss with myself about this on lugnet, but have tried to start a
discussion more than once: at least most of the german AFOLs are very concerned
about this topic.

The main points are the ones as given before:
- a re-released legend is a dead legend in my eyes (=> see discussion on
Lugnet.castle, link in original posting).
- a new good set (or a colour modification of the ML) would have been much more
helpful for MOCs (and wouldn't have hurt anybody at all).
I think in this discussion almost all arguments have exchanged at this
point. It's now just riding a dead horse. But I still have not heared one good
reason, why a 100% copy of the 4558 is neccessary. Builder and kids could live
with evident modifications as well as anybody else.
Anyway: I do not like speculators and I do not understand MISB collectors. But
sometimes I have fun to "offend" people a little (I fear offend is the wrong
vocabulary). It can be quite useful in a discussion to stand on a point which
is not your own....
Be sure I'm not too upset about the re-releases of the ML and GI sets, but I
still doubt the legends to be a good development.
Kind Regards,
Ben

| (...) Shame your discussion didn't take off. I for one think that the old bricks we're of a much higher quality than the new ones. I noticed this when I ordered a pack of bulk grey bricks. | (...) Ok, here's one reason against a different color 4558: For the US market, 4558 represents one of the most likely to be recognizeable passenger trains to today's kids. I was just thinking the other day that perhaps one reason that there have (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
