But in the sense that you meant it, precious few.  I have noted several
times (and specifically within this string) that the overwhelming majority
of Libertarians are white males - I have met several hundred people who have
identified themselves as Libertarians and they have been 100% white males,
though there are undoubtedly some that are not.  When you consider the vast
diversity of ethnicity in SoCal, that's a telling statement.

Why?

Was the message of the SCLC less valid because SCLC members were mostly black?
Was the message of AIM less valid because AIM was mostly native american?

South Coast Liesure Club?  Sunny California Libertarian Clique?  Advanced
Ideas Mechanics?  Accuracy in Media?  Asian Internet Marketing?  I don't
speak initial.

Well, solved the second with my Apache buddy literally walking by as I was
typing this, American Indian Movement.  AIM isn't offered as a broad
political party that allegedly has the answers to all of societies ills, so
they are not directly comparable in any case.

Asking "why" illustrates the problem of the Libertarian party in general:
they don't understand the difference between oppressed minorities and those
who have established routes of power.

I resent the implication that groups need to be "ethnically balanced" to
have valid messages.

You need to consider that perhaps the Libertarian party is not "ethnically"
or "sexually" (white *males* is what I said) balanced because their message
*isn't* valid, except for white males.  Resent it all you want -
Libertarians will be tilting at windmills perpetually because they will
remain a fringe group because of it.  If Libertarians want to actually get
somewhere rather than be a debating society, they need to address this
issue.  If they want to go a different route and reduce themselves to a
special interest group, then they can compare themselves to AIM.
(Middle-Class White Males League?)

The participants in this newsgroup are more white and more male than the
norm too. So what? THAT is why I answered Scott the way I did, to highlight
the inherent meaninglessness of the question.

This newsgroup is not based on ideology, so again, it is not comparable with
the Libertarian Party.

If the question is meaningless, then why is the Libertarian Party almost
exclusively white male?  I'm not meaning that as a personal attack - I just
am curious if you have an opinion as to why.  A failing on minorities and
women to understand the Libertarian message?  A fear by them that they
*think* they *do* understand the Libertarian message (it's legit for
businesses to discriminate based on race, creed, and sex)?  I'm not looking
to make a put down of the Libertarian Party - I honestly think this is
something that Libertarians need to consider more: if they are touting their
message as so universal, why is such a narrow audience that is listening?
