  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) We've been doing standardized testing for the past couple of weeks here in California, and I noticed on the form the students had to fill out that there are now two complete sections provided for the students to indicate their race or (...) (...) I don't call that progress, I call that moving BACKWARDS. The question simply shouldn't be there AT ALL. -- Tom Stangl ***(URL) Visual FAQ home ***(URL) Bay Area DSMs (24 years ago, 5-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) Yup, SAT 9 (Chino Hills). They just finished yesterday. My son's teacher pointed out to him how to indicate both. They still want the kid to make a choice with that "most identifies with" bit, so with luck I screwed up the computer scan by (...) (24 years ago, 5-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) I agree. We leave it blank (along with a lot of other stuff like how many bathrooms we have and other marketing research kind of stuff...) on the census form. This has earned us a followup visit the last two times. ++Lar (24 years ago, 5-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) Say what one will about the challenges and problems now facing South Africa, but they knew that the very first thing they needed to do with the 1996 census was *eliminate* any category of race or ethnicity on the forms. Granted, they're much (...) (24 years ago, 6-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) I'm glad the census bureau collects data on such matters as the number of bathrooms contained in the average household. I would think information such as this would be useful to historians in the future-- I mean, wouldn't info like that (...) (24 years ago, 6-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) The number of bathrooms is not a factor in determining how many people are resident in an area for the purposes of determining proportional representation... that is the role of the census as specified in the constitution. Any collection of (...) (24 years ago, 6-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) Chino Hills? Cool beans! I used to love that drive through Carbon Canyon... It's been 10 years (and 2 months) since I lived in the area. It's undoubtedly overgrown a lot since there. Steve (24 years ago, 7-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Inter-racial, Inter-religious, Inter-national relationships

(...) I can guarantee that you would not love the drive nowadays. I drive through the canyon daily and although the area has grown tremendously, the freeway system has not kept up. On top of that the 91 freeway has a huge toll road that will not let (...) (24 years ago, 7-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Carbon Canyon + Miata.....bliss!

(...) Stanford 9. My brain fuzzed out. (...) Great place to drive through. Put the top down, the shades on, and give the Bridgestone RE-71s a workout. (...) That's the slackers in Riverside county. The 91 was awful 10 years ago, I'll note. Carbon (...) (24 years ago, 7-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
