  Re: What happened?

On Sat, 19 Jun 1999 12:34:44 GMT, Larry Pieniazek uttered the following profundities... (...) I wasn't expecting an answer! However, good luck! It must be quite exciting to be part of a small, up-and-coming firm. I imagine, being a part of (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: What happened?

Larry Pieniazek wrote in message <376B8E64.D5F6383E@v...er.net>... (...) I've always assumed part of it is the corporations not wanting employees to know how bad a deal they've got. Of course a more reasonable reason is the corporation not wanting (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Perl rules!

(...) I didn't mean to say that it was necessary for a language to be "high level" but it certainly is a common property of high-level langauges (for example Lisp/Scheme, Logo, PostScript*, and Perl). (...) It certainly has a variety of mis-uses, (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Perl rules!

Good post! (...) I agree with most all you say, but I am surprised that you consider this: in-memory compilation of arbitrary code constructed on-the-fly, necessary for a language to be "high level". I rather consider it a potential pitfall for the (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Enough to make me quite happy. For whatever reason, in the US, it's rude to ask specific details, and it would not be prudent for me to answer publicly in more detail. Why salaries and comp are closely guarded may be an interesting .debate (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Perl rules!

(...) Amen to that. Perl is the first general-purpose programming language I've ever used* which hasn't yet made me mad at it because it couldn't do something in a clean and straightforward way. It's amazing: I just never get mad at Perl. Instead, (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Once upon a time, (on Thu, 17 Jun 1999 17:52:22 GMT, to be precise!), Larry Pieniazek uttered the following profundities.... (...) Ah ha. Hmmmm. How much %age of the company were you offered? (25 years ago, 19-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Absolutely. And let's burn all copies of Lott we can find, using the original Constitution as lighting-fluid. Jasper (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Come now. Python uses whitespace to indicate nesting. Even perl knows better than that. Hell, friggin' BASIC knows better than that. Jasper (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: stunningly geedy people

(...) And what's so bad about that, eh? Somebody's gotta do it. Jasper (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Technology (...) Oops... I meant 'everyone who works/associates with us'. :) There are I think 20 people who work for (my) CTP, but I'm not sure how many government agencies deal with us. Your CTP is certainly bigger! :) Jeff P.S. If you are (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) There may be many psychos there, but at least they're polite. I lived in Buffalo for 4 years and got enamored of canada. Well, mainly of its beer. I keep threatening to defect, but until they pass the ERA here I won't have to. :) Patricia (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Well, I read about CTP in InfoWorld all the time, so I'm part of Larry's everyone. (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Who's everyone in this context? CTP stands for Cambridge Technology Partners to about 4500 people that work in 50 offices worldwide. :-) That everyone may be bigger than your everyone. :-) -- Larry Pieniazek (URL) Application Integration!   Re: What happened?

(...) What does CTP stand for? I ask because I work for the Cartographic Technology Programs Office(1), which everyone calls CTP. :) Jeff 1 - CTP is a part of the National Ocean Service (NOS), which is a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric (...)   Re: What happened?

(...) I'm going to work someplace else instead of CTP. My CTP email won't work any more. That's the scoop, the whole scoop and nothing but the scoop. Really. What part didn't you get? :-) Oh, ok. It's not the whole scoop. You want more details? :-) (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)
